Politics are the worst

Mike Huckabee Hates Women?
The thing I hate about politics is that people are constantly looking for ways to make their opponent look wrong, to the point that they even fabricate issues. Mike Huckabee’s recent comments about women supposedly show how out of touch Republican’s are, but I am yet to see the issue with his statement. I’ve read enough editorials about the subject to understand that he is reducing women to nothing but “libidos,” except he’s using a straw-man argument so that’s not his actual position. I’ve also seen plenty of explanations that women’s desire for access to birth control is not due to unrelenting sexual appetites, but a quick web search reveals that most birth control costs $50 a month without insurance, and if that’s out of your budget you probably shouldn’t be having sex because you probably can’t afford a kid if you get a bad batch. All of which is to say that Mr. Huckabee’s argument that Democrat’s have targeted women voter’s exclusively through promoting easier access to birth control, isn’t rebuked by calling him anti-woman for bringing it up. In fact, it seems to support his claim when the knee-jerk reaction is to go ad hominem rather than just citing the myriad of policies that women support on the DFL platform.

The Other Running Shoe Dropped
Apparently Wendy Davis, the 11-hour filibusterer, altered her official biography to make herself a little more folk-heroey. I don’t personally care that much, other than to wonder how she thought people wouldn’t fact-check her story in today’s political climate; I do care about people who think such small, innocent changes shouldn’t be used for political ammo. In the 2012 presidential election “binders full of women” became a meme showing how ridiculous and stupid Mitt Romney was, because he left out “’s resumes.” Now if you felt at the time that Romney had revealed his lack of intelligence, or his true view towards women, with his inability to finish his sentence on national television, please don’t complain when the other shoe drops. Politicians frequently say and do very stupid things; so before jumping down the other side’s throat for every miscue, remember your side does it too and go jump off a bridge instead.
